Bullying discussion for parents set for Nov. 21

JACKSON — As bullying in the classroom continues to be a key issue across the state, the Jackson School District Board of Education is teaming up with the Jackson Police Department to discuss the many faces of bullying with parents on Nov. 21.

“What Parents Need to Know About Bullying and Cyber-Bullying” is part of the Parent University initiative started by the district this year in an effort to allow parents to get a first-person perspective about what is going on in the district.

Parent University events are free and open to all parents and guardians. Students, however, are prohibited from attending the Nov. 21 event, according to a press release.

“This is such an important issue and parents really need to hear from the people involved directly with students about what the realities of bullying and cyber-bullying are and how we can all work together to prevent undesirable situations,” Superintendent of Schools Thomas Gialanella said.

Jackson Police Officer John Pejoski will be on hand to discuss bullying in schools, along with school district clinical social worker Eileen Keegan and school district student assistance coordinator Andrea Mangini-Harold.

“This is a great opportunity for the school district to partner with the Jackson Police Department to provide an evening of useful and important information to our parents, and I hope parents take advantage of it,” Gialanella said.

Other upcoming Parent University event topics include “College Funding and Keys for College Success” and “Exploring the Promethean System.” A list of these events will be available at www.jacksonsd.org.

Anyone who has questions regarding the Nov. 21 bullying discussion can contact Officer Pejoski at 732-928-1111, ext. 2243.
