“Doing Business with the Federal Government,” a free small business seminar, will be presented by the Lakewood Development Corporation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Lakewood municipal building, 231 Third St., Lakewood. Free Motion Rehabilitation Center, 528 New Friendship Road, Howell, will be holding a supply drive to benefit the Toms River animal facility. The supply drive will run during November. Some of the requested items are dog treats, leashes/collars, brushes/grooming tools, pooper scoopers, crates, toys, kitten bottles, KMR formula, catnip, litter, and kitten chow. New or gently used towels and blankets are needed, as well as cleaning supplies, including Pine Sol, laundry detergent, paper towels, mops and hand soap. Ocean Health Initiatives, a federally qualified health center with locations in Lakewood, Toms River and Manahawkin, is partnering with Horizon NJ Health to participate in National Rural Health Day on Nov. 17. OHI will bring its Mobile Medical Unit to the Plumsted municipal building, 121 Evergreen Road, New Egypt, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to conduct free family dental screenings and cholesterol and glucose screenings. In addition, Horizon NJ Health representatives will provide assistance to families that are applying for the NJ FamilyCare Advantage, an affordable health care program for children without health insurance whose families do not qualify for NJ Family Care. Jackson Orthodontics, 186 West Veterans Highway, Jackson, will host its 10th annual candy buy-back event in an effort to promote a safe and healthy Halloween for children. Jackson Orthodontics will buy back the candy that young trick-or-treaters collected this year. Candy may be brought to Jackson Orthodontics through November between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to receive $1 for each pound of Halloween treats collected. In addition, Jackson Orthodontics will donate $1 for each pound collected to the Jackson food pantry, and the candy will be sent toAmerican military troops. Details: 732-942-8400.

The Eye Center in Jackson, in the Jackson ShopRite Plaza, 260 North County Line Road, is collecting old eyeglass frames as part of the Lions Club of Jackson’s program to combat blindness around the world. Those who bring in their old frames will get $100 off their next eyeglass purchase during November. Dr. Rajeev Raghu, the optometrist who owns The Eye Center said there is a large bin for people to drop their old frames in any time during office hours. No appointment is necessary. The center is open Sunday through Tuesday, and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Howell Chamber of Commerce will host a Breakfast Bonanza networking event at Big City Bagels, 4007 Route 9 north, Aldrich Plaza, Howell, 8-9:30 a.m. Nov. 11. “Affordable Advertising and Advertising Tips” will be presented by David Dailey of Coffee News. N.J. Farm Market and its owners were welcomed to Lakewood by Mayor Menashe Miller at an official grand opening on Nov. 3. N.J. Farm Market, 1328 River Ave. in the Seagull Square shopping center, sells fruits, vegetables, delicatessen meats, flowers, dry fruits and nuts, seafood, fresh fish, household items, and more in a 22,000-squarefoot store. David Oh, an owner, said the store currently employs 50 people, 40 of whom live locally. N.J. Farm Market is now open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with plans to stay open until midnight in the near future. The Orchards at Bartley, 100 North County Line Road, Jackson, will host a free seminar about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in honor of National Alzheimer’s Disease Month in November. The Orchards at Bartley is sponsoring a presentation to help more people understand this disease and other forms of dementia. Dr. Robert Chen, a geriatric specialist from the Family Practice at Bartley Corner and faculty member of the Geriatric Fellowship program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, will conduct the presentation, which is designed to help caregivers understand what to look for and what they can do to manage the disease.
