EdMoran may have found a new event: the marathon.
Moran, a native of the Dayton section of South Brunswick, made his marathon debut Sunday in theNewYork City Marathon, and it was a quite an impressive one. He ran the 26.2- mile race through the five boroughs of NewYork City in 2:11:46, good enough for 10th place. He was third among Americans.
Moran, who went on to a fine college career at William & Mary after starring at Notre Dame High School, has enjoyed an outstanding post-collegiate career, becoming one of the country’s top distance runners on the track and the roads. Until the New York City Marathon, most of Moran’s success had been on the track and 5K and 10K.
In 2007, Moran, who competes for Nike, won the gold medal in the 5,000 meters at the PanAmerican Games. In 2008 he was fourth in the 10,000 at the U.S. Olympic Trials. In 2010 he was second in the 10K at the U.S. national championships.
Earlier this year, Moran placed third at the national cross country championships.
Moran has experienced success on the roads prior to the marathon. He won the USA National Road 10K title in Atlanta, Ga., last July 4. This year he was second in the USA 10K and fourth in the USA 10-Mile.
Moran now lives in Williamsburg, Va., where he is volunteer coach at his alma mater, William & Mary.
