William H. Macfie

Mr. Macfie, 82, of the Colonia section of Woodbridge, died Oct. 20, 2011, at JFK Medical Center, Edison. He worked as an electrical engineer for AT&T/Bell Labs in Whippany, Holmdel and Morristown for 40 years before retiring in 1990. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the late 1940s. Mr. Macfie was an active member of the New Dover United Methodist Church, Edison, and a member of the Toastmasters and the Telephone Pioneers ofAmerica, both of Holmdel, Mr. Macfie was predeceased by a son, Steven Macfie, in 2003; a brother, Thomas Macfie; and two sisters, Catherine Hickether and Barbara Priestly. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Jean Reynolds Macfie; four sons and two daughters-in-law, William “Bill” Macfie II of Kearny, Dr. Brian and BarbaraMacfie ofGoodyear, Ariz., DanielMacfie of Edison, and David and Aggie Macfie of Colonia; a brother, Donald Macfie of Lakewood; two sisters, Evelyn Herbert and Janet Elfers, both of North Carolina; four grandchildren; and a greatgranddaughter. Gosselin Funeral Home, Edison, was in charge of arrangements. Cremation services were private.
