FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — The Patriot Players of Freehold Township High School will present “The Laramie Project” by Moises Kaufman and the members of The Tectonic Theatre Project.
The play portrays the powerful true story of the aftermath of one of the most notorious hate crimes in American history.
In November 1998, the members of The Tectonic Theatre Project traveled to Laramie, Wyo., to interview members of the community. In the previous month, 21-yearold Matthew Shepard had been tied to a fence, beaten and left to die. The killers admitted Shepard was killed because he was gay. The play deals with how Shepard’s murder affected the community, the country and, ultimately, the world.
The play contains mature themes and language. It is directed and designed by Patt Giblin, the drama teacher at FTHS; with assistant director Stephani Ansley, an English teacher; and technical director Alex Dohan, a social studies teacher.
Performances of “The Laramie Project” will be held at Freehold Township High School, 281 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township, Nov. 17, 18 and 19 at 7 p.m., with an additional matinee performance at 1 p.m. Nov. 19. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for students and senior citizens. For more information, call 732- 431-8460.
