‘New Jersey Artists Emerged’

“NewJerseyArtists Emerged” features the recent work of 20 artists from the New Jersey EmergingArtists Series and offers a glimpse into their evolution as artists since their first solo exhibition at the museum.

Participating Monmouth County artists include: Gary Dates of Hazlet, Kathy Forer of Locust, Amy Puccio of Howell, and Paul Lenz and Sangita Phadke, both of Colts Neck.

This exhibition, which runs through Dec. 4, also includes works by: Shin-Young An, Pat Brentano, Rick Buttari, Philip Carroll, Jill Baker Gower, Seth Ruggles Hiler, Darren Mc- Manus, John Monahan, Linda Lee Nicholas, Gustav Rosenlof, Lauren Rosenthal, Megan Ruisch, Marie Sturken, Anique Taylor and Yvonne Yaar.

Puccio is a sculptor and exhibits her wood sculptures throughout New Jersey. She creates wall-hung, relief constructions that incorporate leftover scraps of picture frame molding. Her solo show was held at the Monmouth Museum earlier this year.

 Sangita Phadke, “The Fancy Chef,” pastel Sangita Phadke, “The Fancy Chef,” pastel Dates has been a drummer in the NewYork metropolitan area and New Jersey music scenes for more than 30 years. Six years ago, he turned professional photographer after taking photography classes at Brookdale Community College. He exhibits his digitally manipulated illusions of reality throughout New Jersey. Dates’s solo show at the Monmouth Museum was also this year.

Phadke is a pastel artist and specializes in larger-than-life food products. As a self-taught artist, she has developed her realistic style through experimentation of color and an obsession with detail. Her solo show at the Monmouth Museum took place in 2009.

 Gary Dates, “First Date,” photography Gary Dates, “First Date,” photography Forer is a sculptor and studied under the renowned Spanish born American sculptor José de Creeft in 1978. Her work was featured in a solo show at the museum in 2008.

Lenz, a photographer and retired physician, concentrates on simplifying the image and eliminating as many details as possible in his work. His NJ Emerging Artists Series solo show took place in 2007.

There will be an artists panel discussion on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. during which the artists will discuss their new work, offer insights and share their personal stories with the audience.

The New Jersey Emerging Artists Series at the Monmouth Museum features six exhibitions held each year to provide a unique opportunity for New Jersey artists to showcase their work. Gallery talks scheduled during the exhibitions offer artists the opportunity to share insights on their work.
