Howell United Soccer Club will host the 13th annual Howell United Cup tournament on Nov. 19-20. The event attracts more than 100 teams from several states for two days of competition for players ages 7-18. This year in conjunction with the tournament, organizers are conducting a nonperishable-food drive to benefit local food pantries this holiday season. “Given that our tournament will take place the weekend before Thanksgiving, the families of Howell United Soccer thought it only fitting to help our neighbors who may be struggling during these difficult economic times,” event organizer Bill Smith said. “We are asking all participating teams and families to support the food drive by packing a few canned or dry goods in with their soccer gear, and brighten someone’s Thanksgiving table.” There will be a main collection area at the event’s hub at Soldier Memorial Park, 574 Lakewood Farmingdale Road, Howell. The goal is to collect 1,000 pounds of food. For more information, send an email to [email protected].
