Kelly Hedin, a physical education and health teacher at Manalapan High School, was recently awarded the honor of October’s Teacher of the Month by the First Financial Foundation and Thunder 106. Hedin was nominated for the honor by family member Christian Kearns and was surprised with an award presentation earlier this month. Kearns said Hedin does just about anything she is asked of at her high school, including directing the school play and coaching cheerleading in addition to her duties as the (now former) head varsity field hockey coach.

Joseph R. Zakhary, Esq., of Howell, has recently joined the litigation department in the Mount Laurel office of Capehart Scatchard. Zakhary focuses his practice in general litigation throughout the federal and state courts of New Jersey and New York with a concentration on insurance defense matters. He currently serves on the board of directors as secretary to the New Jersey not-for-profit corporation Rescued and Redeemed Ministries Inc. Capehart Scatchard is a diverse law firm of 66 attorneys with offices in Mount Laurel, Trenton and New York.

Edward J. Lynskey, Ed.D., of Howell, was recently honored by Berkeley College. Lynskey was presented with the Faculty of the YearAward for excellence in on-site instruction in the School of Professional Studies. Lynskey is an instructor in the Justice Studies – Criminal Justice Department. The award recognizes a faculty member who is a role model in demonstrating commitment to the success of Berkeley students.

Tricia Tilly has been named marketing coordinator for Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute, Freehold Township and Monroe Township, where she will develop and execute a comprehensive marketing plan, and oversee all marketing initiatives.

Tilly brings with her more than a decade of marketing experience, having most recently held the position of marketing and administrative coordinator for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Branch and New Brunswick.

Prior to her position at the Ronald Mc- Donald House, Tilly was director of marketing and public relations at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital where she developed and implemented marketing strategies.

Kenny Moore, an executive coach, business consultant, and president of Kenny Moore Consulting, will present “Managing Performance in Ambiguous and Uncertain Times” from 8-10 a.m. Dec. 8 at the monthly meeting of the Jersey Shore Association for Human Resources. The meeting will be held at Jumping Brook Country Club, Neptune. This session will focus on the business theory of performance management and provide practical examples of how HR professionals can assist senior management in understanding and applying these principles.

Prior to coming to corporate life, Moore spent 15 years in a monastic community as a Catholic priest in one of the world’s largest religious orders.

A Blowout Boot Camp will be held at Chic Hair Salon, 843 Route 33, Freehold Township, on Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Patrons are asked to bring their blow dryer, flat iron and brushes for styling tips. Customers are also encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots drive. Cost is $30; those who bring a new client get a $10 discount. Jarrod Kaufman, M.D., a surgeon on staff at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, has been selected by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) Cancer Liaison Program as a recipient of the Commission on Cancer State Chair Outstanding Achievement Award for 2010-11 for his cancer liaison work throughout the state. He was presented the award at the CoC annual meeting held recently in San Francisco.

Kaufman earned this recognition for his work in three key cancer areas, including education, mentoring, and communication with cancer liaison physicians; interaction and support of the American Cancer Society field staff and division leadership; and engagement with comprehensive cancer control and/or state cancer control activities.
