HOWELL— The Garden State Skating Club in conjunction with Howell Ice World will kick off the new year by celebrating National Skating Day with its inaugural open house on Jan. 7 from noon to 3 p.m. at Howell Ice World, 269 Squankum Road, Howell.
The National Skating Day campaign is an opportunity for local rinks and figure skating clubs to promote awareness of and participation inU.S. Figure Skating programs and also to attract new families to the world of skating, according to a press release.
In celebrating its 10th anniversary, National Skating Day presents an opportunity for the public to learn about local programs, acquire basic skating skills, and develop an enthusiasm for the sport of skating.
The open house will kick off the ice festivities at noon with two hours of public skating. GSSC coaching staff will be volunteering their time to skate and play on-ice games and other fun activities with all the skaters.
The public skate session will be followed by a youth hockey exhibition and figure skating performances showcasing the talents of Howell’s young hockey players and GSSC skaters.
The day’s event will conclude with complimentary half-hour skating lessons taught by GSSC professional coaches and instructors.
GSSC will also have members available to speak with parents who wish to learn more about the U.S. Figure Skating basic skills program and the club.
The first 200 participants will receive goodie bags filled with U.S. Figure Skating promotional items and everyone will earn two-for-one admission tickets to the rink for their next visit.
Adriana Ryan, Howell Ice World’s academy skating director, said the National Skating Day open house “will encourage all to enjoy and learn more about the sport of skating in addition to [seeing] our comprehensive instructional skating programs and the modern facilities at Howell Ice World.”
