Truck driver killed in crash on I-195

Victim identified as Totowa man

UPPER FREEHOLD — The driver of a tractor-trailer was killed in a crash on I-195 Thursday afternoon. Totowa resident Goran Stevanovic, 43, was the driver in the fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred near milepost 12.4 on the westbound side of the highway around 3:21 p.m., according to New Jersey State Police Trooper Christopher Kay.

Stevanovic was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident after he was found trapped inside the cab of the truck.

The preliminary investigation suggests that Stevanovic lost control of the vehicle, which exited left from the roadway before re-entering and crossing the westbound lanes, then finally overturning. The truck’s trailer became detached, coming to rest across the westbound left lane and center median, Kay said.

According to Kay, traffic on I-195 west was shut down at milepost 13.2 and was diverted eastbound after the accident. The normal flow of traffic did not resume until after 9 p.m., he said.
