The American Legion Safety Essay Contest, sponsored in South Brunswick by Post 401, is open to students who live in South Brunswick and are in sixth, seventh or eighth grade at a public, private or parochial school.
The topic of the essay is “What Safety Means to Me.”
The essay must be no fewer than 300 words or more than 450 words, and may be written on a computer or by hand, as long as it is legible.
Handwritten essays receive extra credit. Coverage of topic, grammar, neatness, spelling, originality and general appearance will be factors in the judging.
The essay must also be certified by the child’s teacher and sent to Post 401, P.O. Box 82, 148 Major Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852. Deadline is Jan. 16.
