NBTHS celebrates the holidays with service projects

NORTH BRUNSWICK — Students and staff members at North Brunswick Township High School (NBTHS) are showing their true colors this holiday season.

Through the service learning program You Are Our Heroes, students and staff wrote letters to military personnel serving overseas and in the United States. The school completed the one-day project by sending more than 1,200 letters to the A Million Thanks nonprofit organization.

Locally, NBTHS raised over $400 with a dress-down day for the 1st Marine Division Association Inc. New Jersey chapter, which supports children in need and veterans in the state. The Gifts for Children and Veterans program is being organized by Matt Daley, vice president of the 1st Marine Division Association Inc. New Jersey Chapter.

In addition, the DECA students, under the direction of Kathleen Malik, sponsored their annualAngels program for The Salvation Army of New Brunswick. Staff and students contributed gifts for 130 children in need during the holiday season.

Furthermore, the school’s National Honor Society made a substantial donation to Elijah’s Promise soup kitchen and the Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick to help brighten up the holiday season for children and their families.
