FRHSD to hold orientation

The Freehold Regional High School District will host an orientation event for current eighth-grade pupils and their parents at each district high school during January. The program will provide information to help parents become familiar with each school, mission and philosophy, academic offerings, course registration process and all of the educational and extracurricular opportunities the six FRHSD schools have to offer.

Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions they may have about the registration process and the upcoming school year. Parents of special education students will be invited to meet with the special education supervisor and learn about the specific programs offered at each high school. Parents are encouraged to contact the respective high school guidance supervisors with any questions or concerns they may have, according to a press release.

The orientation dates and times for the individual high schools can be found on the district’s Internet website.

According to the press release, more than 87 percent of FRHSD students pursue higher education. At all FRHSD schools, SAT scores consistently exceed state and national averages, and HSPA scores at all schools are well above state averages, according to the press release. The curriculum at each high school is the same for all academic subjects. Six specialized learning centers for students who are highly motivated and talented are located throughout the FRHSD. All eighth grade pupils from sending schools in the district are eligible to apply. Admission to the learning centers is competitive.

The specialized learning centers are Business Administration at Marlboro High School, Humanities at Howell High School, Global Issues at Freehold Township High School, Medical Sciences at Freehold High School, Science and Engineering at Manalapan High School, and Law and Public Service at Colts Neck High School.

FRHSD also offers a Culinary Arts/Hospitality Management Academy and a Computer Science Academy at Freehold High School, a Fine and Performing Arts Academy at Howell High School, a Navy JROTC Character and Leadership Development Academy at Colts Neck High School, Automotive Technology and Law Enforcement and Public Safety Academies at Manalapan High School, and an Animal and Botanical Sciences Academy at Freehold Township High School.
