Man of many missions, Market Share win New Jersey Sire Stakes awards

Man o fmany missions, who trotted the fastest mile in New Jersey Sire Stakes history, has been selected as the overall N.J. Sire Stakes Horse of the Year for 2011.

The award, which is voted annually by the Sire Stakes board of trustees, is based solely on performances in races for New Jersey sired horses, including NJSS races and other major stakes for N.J. sires.

Manofmanymissions set the Sire Stakes record of 1:52.1, winning the $175,000 NJSS Premier Division Championship Final for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings in August at The Meadowlands. He was undefeated in NJSS competition, also winning a preliminary leg of the NJSS series. Andy Miller drove in both victories.

At the time, his 1:52.1 clocking matched the season’s leader mark he had set in July winning the $166,000 Stanley Dancer Trot at The Meadowlands.

After his NJSS championship victory, Manofmanymissions went on to win the $500,000 Colonial Trot at Chester, a $196,000 heat and $98,000 final of the Kentucky Futurity at Lexington and an elimination of the Breeders Crown at Woodbine. He also had a fourth-place finish in the $1 million Canadian Trotting Classic at Mohawk. David Miller was his driver in those starts.

The son of Yankee Glide, trained by Erv Miller, won nine of 15 starts overall as a 3- year-old, earning $1,215,000 in his career for his owners, Manofmanymissions Stable, Mystical Marker Farms and M. Biasuzzi Stable. The colt was bred by Kentuckiana Farms. Market Share, undefeated in five career starts, was chosen Horse of the Year for 2011 in the GreenAcres Division of the New Jersey Sire Stakes.

The award is based only on performances in the NJSS Green Acres Division.

The son of Revenue won three legs of the NJSS Green Acres series at Freehold Raceway for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings. With Jeff Gregory driving, the colt set a GreenAcres record of 1:58.4, winning the $25,000 championship final of that series.

Trained by Linda Toscano for co-owners Richard Gutnick of Blue Bell, Pa., and Gary Cocco of New Town Square, Pa., Market Share also won a $25,000 New Jersey Futurity at Freehold, finishing the year with career earnings of $36,250.

Perretti to hold on to top horses

Perretti Farms of Cream Ridge will keep its premier stallions, the trotter Muscles Yankee and the pacer Rocknroll Hanover, in New Jersey in 2012 and reduce their stud fees, it was announced.

Muscles Yankee, the sire of three consecutive Hambletonian winners, will stand for $10,000 and Rocknroll Hanover will stand for $15,000.

“As many distinguished New Jersey legislators have determined the need for increased gaming within the state is vital for added revenues, it is entirely possible that the climate within the state will be different by the time the produce from the 2012 breeding season come of age for the yearling sales,” noted Perretti spokesman Bob Marks in a Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey press release.
