West Windsor, NJ: Mercer County Community College (MCCC) has received a $50,000 grant from the Princeton New Jersey-based Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to support the Jim and Fannie Floyd Scholarship Fund. The endowed scholarships assist the most financially needy MCCC students.
Established in 2010, the scholarship honors long-time MCCC Foundation Board member Jim Floyd and his late wife, Fannie, who were active volunteers for decades. The Floyds worked throughout their lives to foster educational opportunities and to combat discrimination in housing, especially in the Princeton area. For the past two years the MCCC Foundation Board has hosted “Floyd Fest” to raise funds for the Floyd scholarship fund.
The first Floyd scholarship was granted in fall 2011 to Gwendolyn Alexander of Trenton, a returning adult student and Funeral Service major who hopes to own her own funeral home in the future.
MCCC President Patricia C. Donohue was delighted to receive this support. “The college is proud to steward the Jim and Fannie Floyd Scholarship Fund. We are appreciative of the Foundation’s support, which will be critical to the success of many students.”
