Library offers programs for adults and kids this month
Computer courses will be offered at the township library on South Branch Road.
Part 2 of Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007 will be held Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. Part 2 of Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2007 will follow at 2:30 p.m.
The library will be closed Monday, Jan. 16, for Martin Luther King’s Birthday.
Upcoming programs intended for adults:
• Chinese New Year — Celebrate the Year of the Dragon as Jeannette Yu explains the origin of this colorful, cultural event, with traditional Chinese treats to sample. Saturday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m.
• Evening movie — “The Help,” based on the Kathryn Stockett novel of the same name, is a comedy-drama about a young white woman journalist and her relationship with two black maids during Civil Rights-era America in the 1960s. Friday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m.
• New Year, New You! — Diane Lang, counseling educator and author, and family coach Tracey Serebin will show tips to help you create the life you want. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m.
Monday Morning Moms (for parents/caregivers) — Shoprite Dietitian Rachel Simpers will present information about nutrition and healthy choices for parents and toddlers. Monday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m.
• Mapping Our Town’s Treasures — People may join in to map destinations of interest, including historical sites, green areas, biking corridors and gems of the community. BoroGreen sponsors the program Saturday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m. Bring your laptops and iPhones to map with us.
Here are programs for youngsters. Registration is required.
• Learning Adventures (ages 4-6) — We’ll have a learning adventure about animals! Thursday, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m.
• Singing Babies (ages newborn to 24 months) — Start your little one on a life-long love of music-making. Friday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m.
• SAT/ACT Practice Test (grades 9-12) — The three and one-half-hour combo test will help students decide which test is right for them. Students receive feedback that compares their performance on each test. Saturday, Jan. 14, at 9:30 a.m.
Children’s movie (ages 3 and older) — “Winnie the Pooh” on the big screen on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m.
Garden club craft (grades 2-5) — Join the members of the Neshanic Garden Club and make a bird feeder. Jan. 18 at 4 p.m.
Special Storytime (ages 2-6) — Have a “dance party” during our special storytime. Thursday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 21, both at 10 a.m.
Anime Club (grades 8-12) — Hang out with your friends and watch anime, discuss the latest manga and more. Thursday, Jan. 19, at 5 p.m.
Story and songs (ages 2-6) — Join us for an interactive storytime and musical activities. Friday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m.
Stories for 4’s, 5’s & 6’s — Help your preschooler get ready to read. Enjoy stories together and build language skills. A program is on bears on Monday, Jan. 23 at 1 p.m.
Toddler Time (ages 2-3) — Introduce the pleasure of books to your child! Join us for stories, songs and more. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m.
Rhyme Time (newborn to 2) — Join us for 20 minutes of nursery rhyme fun. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 10:30 a.m.
Snack & Study (grades 9-12) — Need a place to study for midterms? We’ll have our program room open to high school teens to drop in, study with friends, and grab snacks. Be sure to register so we can provide enough snacks. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m.
Art Adventures (ages 4-6) — Learn about famous artists and take your own masterpiece home. In this program, “Starry Night,” make a swirly night sky like Van Gogh! Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m.
Math Matters (ages 4-6) — Stories and activities will get math brains working. A program on shapes will be held Thursday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m.
Lego Buddies (grades 8-12) — Volunteer opportunity for teens! Help provide assistance during our Lego Club programs. You must pre-register for each individual session. Thursday, Jan. 26 at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2:30 p.m.
Lego Club (grades 3-5) — If you are into Legos, come and hang out with other Lego-maniacs and have fun building together! Thursday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 28, at 3 p.m.
Story and Craft (ages 2-6) —Listen to a story and create a polar bear mask to take home. Saturday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m.
