LAWRENCE: Six teens face pot possession charge

By Lea Kahn, Staff Writer
Six Lawrence High School students were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance on Jan. 4, according to police Lt. Charles B. Edgar.
Police were patrolling in the neighborhood near Lawrence High School, investigating residents’ complaints about students’ behavior, such as cutting through back yards to get to school, when they saw the five boys and one girl on the corner of Berwyn Place and Review Avenue at 11 a.m., Lt. Edgar said.
One of the boys saw the police and ran away, he said. While the officers were questioning the other five students who stayed, they discovered a cigarette box on the ground that contained marijuana.
When none of the students would admit to ownership of the marijuana, police charged them with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, Lt. Edgar said. Two of the boys also were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia because they had cigarette rolling papers in their possession.
The boys included three 17-year-olds, a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old, Lt. Edgar said. The girl was 16 years old. All were released to their parents or guardians, he said.
