Two Trenton men were charged with multiple weapons-related offenses after a short car chase that began on Brunswick Pike in Lawrence and that ended on Klagg Avenue in Trenton shortly after midnight on Jan. 7, according to police Lt. Charles B. Edgar.
Wade Wallace, 26, and Ronnie Livingston, 22, both of Trenton, were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of hollow-point bullets, Lt. Edgar said.
Mr. Wallace, who was driving a car that had been reported stolen in Trenton on Jan. 6, also was charged with eluding police and several motor vehicle violations, including reckless driving.
The two men also were charged with receiving stolen property and tampering with physical evidence, Lt. Edgar said.
The chase began at 12:26 a.m. when police noticed the car pull out of the Howard Johnson Motel onto Brunswick Pike without its headlights on. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed it had been reported stolen.
Police followed the car on Brunswick Pike and onto the Trenton Freeway, and then activated the police car’s lights and siren. The car would not stop, and police saw the men throw some objects out of the car window, he said.
Police continued to track the car as it left Route 1 south and turned onto New York Avenue in Trenton. The two men jumped out of the car on Klagg Avenue and began to run. Police caught up with Mr. Livingston immediately, Lt. Edgar said.
Mr. Wallace was located hiding underneath a car by a Trenton Police Department K-9 dog after a search of the neighborhood.
Lawrence police officers returned to the Trenton Freeway to find the objects that had been tossed from the car, Lt. Edgar said. They found two loaded handguns a revolver and a semi-automatic and bullets on the side of the road.
