Gerald Hufford of Stockton came to headquarters at 10 a.m. Jan. 2 to report that several tools worth $1,437 were taken from a construction site on West Camplain Road. Police are investigating.
Lisa Polkowski of East Camplain Road called at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 2 to report the theft of items from her vehicle. She said a Garmin GPS and Sony digital camera were taken sometime since the morning of Dec. 29. Total value was estimated at $198. The GPS was entered into the national crime computer.
[ahu: cut through?: ]Police found a knife through front driver’s seat of a car owned by Ashley Riporti of Boesel Avenue. She reported the incident at 1 p.m. Jan. 2, but said the criminal mischief happened in the overnight hours. Damage was estimated at $100.
Sherri Lynn called at 8 p.m. Jan. 2 to report a suspicious man possibly smoking a controlled dangerous substance in a car on Washington Avenue. Louis Quelly, 49, of Scotch Plains was charged and released with a summons. She called again at 7:10 a.m. Jan. 6 to report a suspicious male parked in front of Delilah’s club. Police located Mr. Quelly again, arrested him for possession of CDS and then released him.
Sameh Aboelata of Ringoes came to headquarters at 11:34 a.m. Jan. 3 to report the theft of a 2003 Dodge van between Dec. 23 and 30. Shortly after being entered into the crime computer, the van was found by Bridgewater police in the lot of the Office restaurant. The owner was notified and the car deleted from the crime listing.
At 12:28 p.m. Jan. 3 a Boesel Avenue man reported finding a white powder in and on his two vehicles. County hazardous materials was dispatched and determined it to be baking soda.
Steven Sabo of Gladys Avenue reported at 1:23 that change and other items were thrown around his vehicle. Mr. Sabo said nothing else appeared to be missing, but he wanted the incident recorded.
The rescue squad was dispatched at 4:47 p.m. Jan. 3 to North 20th Avenue for a man who cut his finger with a table saw. Bruce Perhatch, 53, was taken to Somerset Medical Center.
Amanda Tomaszfski of White Avenue came to headquarters at 6:11 p.m. Jan. 3 to report the theft of a 1993 Dodge Spirit between 10:30 and 11:59 the previous night. The theft of the car, with a value was listed as $500, was listed in the national crime computer.
Patrol reports being out with stolen vehicle out of Manville at 9:14 a.m. Jan. 4. Albert Tomaszfski, 24, of South 19th Avenue, Manville, was charged with unlawful taking, resisting arrest and possession of a hypodermic needle. Bail was set at $1,000, and he was lodged in Somerset County Jail in lieu of the money. The vehicle was taken off the national crime listings.
Carmen Goncalves came into headquarters at 1:03 p.m. Jan. 4 to report she had received a suspicious package in the mail. Police responded and found a stuffed bear from China. She was advised to call police if there were future occurrences.
A shrink-wrapped couch and other items were reported taken outside a Washington Avenue address at 5:26 p.m. Jan. 4. They may have been misconstrued as garbage, police said.
Robert Swick, a bartender at Chester House, reported at 10 p.m. Jan. 4 that a man smashed windows in several vehicles in the parking lot of the North Main Street business. Michael Moriarty, 23, of Middletown was arrested and charged with three counts of criminal mischief. The rescue squad was dispatched to check injuries to his face, but he refused medical attention. He was released to his family.
A Gress Street resident reported at 6:39 a.m. Jan. 5 that her husband’s truck was egged overnight. He cleaned it at a car wash but the incident was recorded.
A North 11th Avenue caller reported damage to a vehicle at 7:47 a.m. Jan. 5. Police found the driver’s side window had been damaged, with an estimated value of $200.
A Belle Mead woman called at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 5 to say man was parked in a silver Acura in the Walmart parking lot with his genitals exposed. Patrols checked but didn’t find the car.
At 12:14 a.m. Jan. 6 Keith Clougher, manager of Foxtails, reported a man who does not work for the business was charging people entering the bar. Police responded and said the man fled but gave the money back to patrons.
Hillsborough police asked for assistance searching for three suspects in a burglary along the railroad tracks on West Camplain Road at 1:48 a.m. Jan. 6. Patrols reported Hillsborough police took one in custody.
A man called at 8:19 a.m. Jan 6 to report a white van with two men wearing ski masks in the area of South Arlington and Huff Avenue. Patrols couldn’t locate the vehicle. About 40 minutes later a van with two men in masks was located, but patrols determined they were delivering newspapers.
At 4:18 p.m. Jan. 6 a North 17th Avenue caller said a black garbage bag was dumped on her lawn. An officer responded and found the bag with just wrapping paper. He disposed of it.
At 7:31 p.m. Jan. 6 Rolbin Jimenez of North Orchard Street reported the theft of his bike by a man last seen heading south on South 4th Avenue. The black K-2 bike was valued at $400.
Patrick Bukenya of Somerset reported at 12:57 a.m. Jan. 7 that his car was broken into at Pure Go-Go on South Street. Taken were $600 in cash and a $200 cell phone, he said.
At 12:14 p.m. Jan. 7 a North Main Street woman reported criminal mischief to the support bar to the gas service on her building. PSE&G came to repair it. Estimated cost is $200.
A Valerie Drive woman reported at 6:30 a.m. Jan. 8 that someone had entered into her sister’s vehicle during the night while the car was parked on the street. Taken was a Garmin Nuvi and charger, valued at $100.
Police responded to a 9-1-1 hangup call from Brooks Boulevard at 2:56 p.m. Jan. 8. Police found a resident who was trying to call Europe.
A caller at 6:04 p.m. Jan 8 reported seeing five dead pitbulls thrown off the river bank off Lincoln Avenue. Patrols respond and are unable to determine the type of animal, or if anything was in the river. The caller said he had contacted SPCA prior to contacting police.
