LONG BRANCH — The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Guild of Greater Long Branch will sponsor events including a gospel concert, youth day and ceremonial march Jan.12-16 to mark the annual observance of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the city.
Gospel Night will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity A.M.E. Church, 66 Liberty St., with the Rev. Norwood R. Cuff, pastor, presiding.
An MLK Soul Food Dinner will be served on Friday, Jan. 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Portuguese Club, 191 Broadway. Entertainment will be provided by DJ Lonnie Rawls and guest performers The Daniels Family Phase II.
The following day, Saturday, Jan. 14, Youth Ministry Day will be held at First Baptist Church, 499 Bath Ave. The event begins at 3 p.m. with the Rev. William Coleman, pastor, presiding.
The annual ceremonial march will take place Sunday, Jan. 15, beginning at 2 p.m. from Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park at Atlantic Avenue and Atlantic Drive.
At 3 p.m., an MLK program will be held at Second Baptist Church, 93 Liberty St., with the Rev. Aaron N. Gibson Sr., pastor, presiding. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Terrence K. Porter, pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Red Bank. The Pilgrim Baptist Church Choir will perform.
The annual MLK Birthday Observance will take place on Monday, Jan. 16, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, Atlantic Avenue and Atlantic Drive. Speaker will be Michael Salvatore, superintendent of the Long Branch Public School District.
