An evening with Oscar-winning filmmaker Vanessa Roth that includes a screening and discussion of her new documentary, “American Teacher,” will be held at the Forum Theatre, 314 Main St., Metuchen, Saturday, Jan. 28, at 8 p.m.
“American Teacher” is a study of what it’s like to teach inAmerica today. The film reveals the realities of today’s educators, the difficulty of attracting talented new teachers, and why so many teachers feel forced to leave the profession.
Co-produced by Dave Eggers and Ninive Calegari and narrated by Matt Damon, “American Teacher” was described by the Washington Post as “a film about education that gets it exactly right.” Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said it raises “important questions about American teachers,” and sparks “a much-needed conversation.”
The screening will be followed by an onstage discussion between Roth and select New Jersey educators, with opportunity for questions from the audience.
The Meet the Director Film Series is sponsored by The Raconteur, The Forum Theatre and the Metuchen Arts Council. Tickets are $15. To purchase tickets, visit Raconteur Books, 431 Main St., Metuchen, call 732-906-0009 or view forumtheatrearts.org.
