EDISON — Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred last week in the parking lot of the Office Depot on Route 1.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 9, police said.

The victim, an 18-year-old Edison resident, told police that he exited the Office Depot and was walking to his car when two unknown black males approached him on foot and demanded his money, according to Police Lt. Sal Filannino.

One of the suspects punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, police said. As the two suspects were standing over the victim, a witness came to his aid by pushing away the suspects, who then fled on foot .

One suspect was described as a darkskinned black male, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans and white sneakers. The other was described as a dark-skinned black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and jeans. Both were believed to be between 20 and 25 years old.

Filannino said the victim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was treated for a minor injury to his upper lip.
