MANVILLE: Resident asks about rising tax levels

In the public portion of Monday’s Borough Council meeting, resident John Mehalick questioned why county property taxes have risen so much.
“The borough paid the county 39%, which is 60% more than the average,” he said. “I don’t feel that the Borough of Manville should be paying the county 60% above the average of this county. This borough is a small borough and the services that we get I don’t think we should be paying 60% more. I think you should address the county and ask why?”
Mr. Mehalick said rising school and municipal taxes were “way out of line. I think something should be done to hold the line,” he said.
Mike Chabra reminded the new mayor and councilmen to continue on the buyouts and the flood relief for Manville. Frank Jurewicz said he would like to see Manville tag into the county plan and to get the master plan done this year.
The next meeting of the Mayor and council is Monday, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Manville Municipal Courtroom.
