Mrs. Bertelsen, 91, of Red Bank, died Dec. 31, 2011, at The Atrium at Navesink Harbor, Red Bank. After graduating from high school, she worked in Manhattan as the personal assistant of the manager of Travelers Insurance. Mrs. Bertelsen continued to work as an administrative assistant and staff administrator at a YMCA resident camp. Later, she worked as a home health aide and volunteered for hospice and Riverview Hospital. She was director of theAltar Guild at Trinity Episcopal Church, Red Bank. Mrs. Bertelsen was predeceased by a granddaughter, Laura Downes, and a great-grandson, Desmond Singh Louis. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Erik; a son, Erik and his wife, Abigail Jones Bertelsen; three daughters, Kristan and her husband, the Rev. Richard M. Louis, Karen and her husband, Ted M. Beal Sr., and Susan and her husband, L. James Downes; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Red Bank. Interment was private. Memorial donations may be made to the church. The Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.
