Program will provide resources for children with special needs

OCEAN TOWNSHIP — The Ocean Township Special Education PTA (SEPTA) will host a program on resources to help parents, teachers and administrators track down assistance for specialneeds children and families.

“Every Special Needs Resource in Monmouth County and Beyond, and How to Find It” will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Ocean Township Intermediate School. The event is free.

Guest speaker Mark Firth, community resource development manager at Monmouth Cares, maintains www.monmouthresourcenet.org, a comprehensive listing of special legal, educational and recreational services available to Monmouth County residents. Categories covered range from Arts and Culture to Financial Assistance to Legal Advocacy to Smart Phone Apps, and everything in between.

“There is so much out there in terms of resources and support for our children,” said SEPTA president Dona Yasser. “Yet it’s easy for the average parent to become overwhelmed or discouraged in trying to wade through links and find what they need. Mark Firth and Monmouth Cares have made it easy with this categorized network. We’re happy to help them share it with the community.”

Located in Long Branch, Monmouth Cares is a private nonprofit agency and part of the N.J. Division of Behavioral Health Services (DCNHS) System of Care for Children. For more information, visit www.monmouthcares.org.
