Mr. Ellwood, 80, of Rumson, died unexpectedly Dec. 29, 2011, due to complications from a fall. He was one of the first real estate investment bankers on Wall Street, beginning at J.P. Morgan in 1955 and eventually forming his own firm based in Rumson, R.S. Ellwood & Co. Inc., in 1988. He closed it in 2005. Mr. Ellwood was dedicated to the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey. He was a vestryman of Trinity Wall Street for 14 years and his own parish, Christ Church, Middletown, for six years. He was a trustee of Rumson Country Day School, 1975-85, and was chairman of its Finance Committee. Mr. Ellwood was a graduate of Princeton University, Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles Russell I and Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth; his children, Deborah Ellwood of Highlands, Alexander Ellwood and his wife, Leslie, of New York City, and Sarah Ellwood Opler and her husband, Edmond, of Hinsdale, Ill.; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Christ Episcopal Church of Middletown. Memorial contributions may be made to the endowment funds of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey or the Rumson Country Day School. The Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, handled the arrangements.
