The New Jersey School Boards Association has posted the 2012 Candidate Kit online at www.njsba.org/candidacy.
This year’s annual school election will be held April 17 — unless local officials decide to go with the new November option. (See related account).
The deadline for candidates to submit nominating petitions is 4 p.m. Feb. 27.
School board secretaries and citizens interested in board member candidacy can download the free kit, which includes:
— Information on how to become a school board member;
— Candidates’ frequently asked questions;
— A nominating petition for the annual school election;
— Information on requirements under the New Jersey School Ethics Act; and
— Candidate briefings.
The times and dates have not been announced for the Candidate Briefings, which will be conducted through regional in-person programs in March and, for the first time, online.
School board secretaries and prospective candidates are asked to check the online Candidate Kit for updates about the times and dates of the briefings.
For further information about school board candidacy, contact NJSBA’s Communications Department at 888-886-5722, ext .5209.
