PLAINSBORO The Plainsboro Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 has a new chief.
Jim Pedley, 37, of Plainsboro, is a 13- year veteran of the fire company.
He replaced former Chief Doug Vorp, whose three-year term as chief ended on Dec. 31.
”The purpose is to give people the opportunity to move up and gain experience,” said Lt. Tom Healey, public information officer for the Plainsboro Fire Company.
Chief Pedley is elected for a one-year term.
”I’m honored to be following Doug Vorp as chief,” Chief Pedley said. “Doug served Plainsboro with distinction as fire chief and his professionalism and commitment to the community will be the standard for future fire chiefs for many years to come.”
Chief Pedley served as an officer-in-charge for the Plainsboro Rescue Squad and earned his EMT-B certification in 2004.
He has lived in Plainsboro since 1997 and joined the Plainsboro Fire Company a year later.
He was elected a second lieutenant in 2001 and progressed through the ranks, becoming assistant chief in 2009. He has also served as the department’s training officer for the past three years.
His goal is to maintain membership of the fire department.
