EAST BRUNSWICK — Four vehicles were involved in an accident Jan. 17, resulting in the left lane of Route 18 southbound near Icker Avenue being closed for an hour.
Police responded to the accident at approximately 8:28 a.m. and determined that a 2009 four-door Acura, operated by Leanna Vastoler, 24, of Marlboro, was traveling south on Route 18 in the left lane when she stopped in traffic. The vehicle immediately behind her, a 2008 four-door Infiniti, operated by Annette Persaud, 33, of Matawan, failed to stop in time and struck the Acura in the rear, police said.
A third vehicle, a 2010 four-door Toyota, operated by Steven Tong, 55, of Colts Neck, then failed to stop and struck the Infiniti in the rear, causing it to hit the Acura again. A fourth vehicle, a 1999 four-door Toyota, operated by Emily Mott, 25, of Asbury Park, also failed to stop in time and struck the Toyota in the rear, resulting in the Acura and the Infiniti being hit again, according to police.
All four drivers complained of pain but refused medical attention, police said.
The accident is under investigation by Patrolman Ted Yachimovicz of the East Brunswick Police Department.
