HILLSBOROUGH: Senior Corner for week of Feb. 2

CHAPTER A
   Chapter A meets the first Thursday of the month in the municipal complex. We are open to new members.
   Doors open at 11:30 a.m., allowing you time to review the trips we offer. The meeting begins at 12:30 p.m. Coffee and doughnuts are served at meeting’s end.

   It’s time for yearly dues. If you’re going away for a while, please remember to pay your $5, the best deal in town.
   We have a schedule of trips to new and familiar places:
   • Thursday, Feb. 16 — Doolan’s for Mardi Gras. The entertainment is always energetic, food plentiful and there is usually an open bar, which is well attended by all people on premises. Cost is $82. Depart Pathmark lot at 10:15 a.m.
   Thursday, March 15 — Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn for “Damn Yankees.” We’ll have lunch at Essex House. We were there last year and liked our service. Cost is $96. Depart from Pathmark lot at 10 a.m.
   Wednesday, April 18 — “9 to 5” at the Dutch Apple Theatre. Cost is $90. We depart at 8:45 a.m. from the Pathmark lot.
   Thursday, April 19 — Appreciation lunch in the municipal building. Cost is $12, which is refunded at attendance. After a plentiful lunch, we’ll play bingo for cash prizes. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and bingo starts at 1 p.m.
   Monday, May 14 — “Butterflies Are Free” at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse. Cost is $56. We depart from the Pathmark lot at 10:15 a.m.
   June 23-July 1 — Trip to Branson, Missouri. Double occupancy is $750 per person, with $990 for a single. Payments begin Feb. 2. First payment is $249 for a single, and $189 for a double.
   We usually go Atlantic City on the first Monday of the month. This is open to everyone; no need to be a member to enjoy the ride on a large, comfortable bus with restroom facilities. We depart at 9 a.m. from Pathmark lot for a direct ride. Call Jo for details at 908-359-6418.
   Here are the ongoing activities taking place in our Senior Room:
   Monday: The knitting group meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Need help with a project, this is the place to find it.
   Tuesday: Bridge, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. we also have the regular card players from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
   Wednesday: Canasta from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Also, mah jongg from noon to 4 p.m.
   Thursday: Bridge, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
   Friday: Mah-jong, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CHAPTER B
   Chapter B members will hold their next monthly meeting on Feb. 9. All of our monthly meetings take place on the second Thursday of the month in the Municipal Building’s all-purpose room, unless otherwise specified. Doors open to members at 11:30 a.m. and our meeting officially starts at 12:30 p.m. This gives everyone time to check our trip and event tables and purchase tickets.
   We are expecting to induct about 36 new members at our February meeting. Names are taken from a waiting list each February. If you are interested in joining Chapter B, contact Merle Matthews at 908-904-1902 and ask to be placed on our waiting list.
   Reminder: You are asked to wear your badges at all meetings and events. If you have lost your badge, please contact membership chairperson Merle Matthews at 908-904-9102 and have her put you on the list for the next order.
   Reminder: If you have not turned in the emergency information form given to you at our January meeting, please be sure you complete and return at our February meeting.
   Trip News
• We will be collecting your last payment for our Savannah trip at our February meeting. Trip leaves from the Kohl’s/Lowe’s park and ride on Sunday, April 15, and we will be returning to that location on Saturday, April 21. This trip is sold out; we are taking a waiting list.    • Tickets are on sale for our first bingo of the year scheduled for Feb. 23. Cost of bingo tickets are $3 and includes hot dogs and lots of other goodies. These tickets will be available at our February meeting.
   • As of our January meeting, our trip to LiGreci’s Staaten for a St. Patrick’s Fest had almost sold out. As always, we take a waiting list and should a vacancy become available, we start at the top of the waiting list and move down.
   Our senior activity rooms continue to be open each weekday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bridge is available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mah jong is available every Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. and goes to 2 p.m. We do have a more experienced group playing mah jong every Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 4. Every afternoon we have some crafts, games, etc. List of all activities and times can be found in the senior room.

   The center at 339 South Branch Road is open from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Its phone is 908-369-8700.
   Enjoy lunch, friends, fun events and wellness programs for a suggested donation of $1.50 or more. (Price for guests under 60: $5.35). Call 908-369-8700 before 10:30 a.m. the day before for your lunch reservation.
   Transportation is available for those who do not drive. Call 908-231-7115.
   Blood pressure screenings are the third Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. Caram (an East Indian game, similar to billiards) and other games are played every Thursday.
   Cards are played daily. You can flex, stretch and tone with Rose on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
