Dr. Stacey Patton, journalist, author and child advocate, has been selected as the recipient of the Barbara Boggs Sigmund Award by Womenspace of Lawrenceville.
She will be honored at the 18th annual Barbara Boggs Sigmund Award event on Wednesday, May 9.
Dr. Patton was chosen for making significant societal contributions to improve lives and forge paths to which others may aspire.
Born in Montclair, NJ, she spent the first five years of her life in foster care and then placed with abusive adoptive parents in Trenton. At age 12 she ran away and spent the next few years shuttled between foster homes and youth shelters before she earned a full scholarship to The Lawrenceville School.
Dr. Patton has made it her mission to be a change maker for abused and fostered children.
She published her first book before the age of 30 titled “That Mean Old Yesterday.” Last year, she launched www.sparethekids.com, a website designed to teach alternatives to physical discipline of children. She lives in Washington, D.C.
