A woman called borough police at 3:55 a.m. Jan. 28 and said her 14-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted by two men she named.
Within hours, police had charged Michael Gentile, 30, of Manville and Michael Calderon, 27, of Somerset were charged with second-degree sex assault and taken to jail on bail of $100,000 and $50,000, respectively.
County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano said that on Jan. 28, the victim reported to Manville detectives that Mr. Gentile sexually assaulted her on Jan. 27 in Manville. The victim also reported that between October and January, both Mr. Gentile and Mr. Calderon sexually assaulted her three times at a motel in Raritan Borough.
The Somerset County Prosecutors Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit, along with the Manville and Raritan Police Departments, investigated.
Mr. Gentile was charged with sexual assault, 2nd degree; endangering the welfare of a child, 3rd degree, and tampering with evidence, 4th degree.
Mr. Calderon was charged with sexual assault, 2nd degree, and endangering the welfare of a child, 3rd degree. Both defendants were lodged in the Somerset County Jail.
