EAST WINDSOR: Restaurant comeback

Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse to return this March

By Jen Samuel, Managing Editor
EAST WINDSOR — By March, Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse will have reopened its doors.
"We are hiring over 75 employees complimented with approximately four salary positions,” said Craig Godfrey, executive vice president of operations for Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse, on Thursday.
These jobs include wait and bar staff positions as well as managerial opportunities.
"We view the East Windsor location as a good market and one we felt was strong for our brand,” Mr. Godfrey said. “We’ve had a presence in the area for some time with locations in West Windsor and Kingston nearby.”
While Mr. Godfrey said the restaurant is scheduled to open by March, he noted that a definite date will be determined as Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse moves closer to the opening.
In November of 2010, Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse, located in the East Windsor Village Shopping Center, on Princeton-Hightstown Road, closed. It was among nearly 50 restaurants that closed as part of a Chapter 11 federal bankruptcy filing by CB Holding Corporation.
Now that Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse is growing again, visitors can expect an updated menu as well.
"Recently, we have made many enhancements to our menu with more value offerings at dinner including our duchess cut prime rib and burgers and sandwiches,” Mr. Godfrey said. “We’ve also added a variety of new seafood and healthier choice offerings.”
Said East Windsor Mayor Janice Mironov, “East Windsor has many fine and varied restaurants but certainly Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse was very popular and provides another great dining option once again. The restaurant is located in a very prominent location in our town and it is wonderful news to have the facility reoccupied and operating.”
The mayor said, “The township welcomes the jobs created locally.”
She added that East Windsor hopes area residents and college students looking for employment will be able to take advantage of the job opportunities provided.
Presently, Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse is renovating the interior of its existing building in East Windsor. The revamped restaurant will feature new carpeting as well as a wooden floor in the bar area and additional booths for diners.
The exterior of the restaurant will feature new canopies. The business will also be repainted.
No planning board approvals were required for the renovations.
"The restaurant is doing renovation work inside and outside, for which they have obtained building permits from the township construction office,” Mayor Mironov said on Wednesday.
"We are looking forward to having our long-time guests come back and dine with us,” said Scott Courounis, director of purchasing for Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse, in a township press release.
