Jackie Cornell-Bechelli, state director of the Obama 2012 campaign, was the featured speaker at the Feb. 1 meeting of the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance, held at Avalon Assisted Living on Amwell Road.
Her topic was the effort that she and her committee will be making to re-elect President Obama to a second term.
”Our objective in New Jersey and nationwide is to get 270 electoral votes for President Obama,” she told the group. “We plan to do this by making sure that people are aware of his many accomplishments during his three short years in office.
”Those accomplishments are significant,” Ms. Cornell-Bechelli told the audience. “He has worked to pass legislation guaranteeing that women pay the same as men for health insurance coverage, and that insurance companies cannot reject people for pre-existing conditions. He has succeeded in passing stricter regulations on credit card companies. He has done away with the policy of, ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell.’ Perhaps his greatest accomplishment has been getting us out of the war in Iraq.”
Ms. Cornell-Bechelli enlisted the help of members of the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance in communicating these accomplishments to the community.
”I’m asking you to call your neighbors and friends, both locally and in other states,” she said. “Send out text messages and e-mails. Visit www.barackobama.com and post information about local events, which I or a member of my committee will make every effort to attend.”
Ms. Cornell-Bechelli said the best way to reach her is by e-mail at [email protected].
The next regular meeting of the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance will be held on Wednesday, March 7, at Avalon Assisted Living, 393 Amwell Road. Light refreshments will be served at 6:45 p.m. The meeting will begin promptly at 7 and is open to both current and prospective members.
The group provides participants with an opportunity to discuss the issues facing Hillsborough, Somerset County and New Jersey.
