A fire roused a family from its single-family home at 6 Fisher Court on Friday morning.
The fire had spread to the first floor by the time all three township fire companies responded at about 7:55 a.m. to the report of a basement fire. The residents were home and got out safely with no injuries.
The fire was extinguished by 8:30 a.m., police said.
The home was deemed uninhabitable and the family left to stay with relatives.
The fire is still being investigated but is not believed to be suspicious, police said.
Firefighters from Manville, Finderne and Franklin and rescue squads form Hillsborough and Somerville. Township social services, building, fire safety departments were on the scene, too.
In other items reported by township police:
John Wood, 52, of Manville was charged with filing a false police report Jan. 16 after he came to police headquarters and claimed that personal property had been stolen from a vehicle he had parked on Hamilton Road.
Police said Mr. Wood eventually admitted to concocting the story and had in fact lost the property he reported as stolen. He was released after processing, police said.
An Auten Road property owner reported Jan. 25 that tools and electronics, valued at $70, were stolen sometime during the overnight hours from a vacant rental property. Police are investigating.
Timothy Young, 66, of Princeton Junction was charged with disorderly conduct after he was seen on the security film of a Route 206 business defecating in a public parking lot. He was released after processing.
James Hishmeh, 49, of Hillsborough was charged with driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a two-car crash on New Centre Road on Feb. 1, police said. Mr. Hishmeh registered breath test of 0.20 percent blood alcohol. He was released after also being charged with failing to keep right, police said.
Two cars collided head-on in an accident that closed Duke’s Parkway West on Jan. 26 for about one hour while an investigation was conducted.
Police allege that an Acura driven by Rosario Grisafi, 28, crossed over the double-yellow line into the eastbound lane and hit the front of a Ford F-250 pickup driven by Lawrence Ditzel, 61.
Mr. Grisafi needed to be extricated from his vehicle and both drivers were taken to Somerset Medical Center with minor injuries.
Mr. Grisafi was charged with driving while intoxicated. Lab tests are pending.
