BORDENTOWN: Scottie girls roll to bowling title

By Bob Nuse, The Packet Group
Winning sectional championships is nothing new for the Bordentown Regional High School girls bowling program.
The Scotties made it six straight South Jersey Group I titles when they finished 40 pins ahead of Gloucester City at last weekend’s sectional tournament. Bordentown did not have an individual finish in the top 15, but won the team title with a deep lineup.
Northern Burlington County Regional competed in the SJ II tournament and finished sixth as a team.
Bordentown will move on to the state Group I tournament on Monday at Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick. The Scotties will be one of eight teams competing for the Group I title — which has gone to Bordentown four of the last five years.
If the Scotties can win the Group I title they will advance to the Tournament of Champions.
”Getting there is the big thing,” Bordentown coach Ron Jones said. “We have won Group I but we have never advanced to the second round of the TOC. It’s tough because once you get that far you are facing bigger schools.
At last weekend’s sectional tournament, Bordentown finished with a three-game total of 2,192 pins. Gloucester City was second with 2,152 and Holy Cross was third with 2,098. The Scotties were led individually by Nicole Weaver, who had a 552 series and a high game of 202. She was just seven pins away from qualifying for the individual tournament.
”She was in the top 20, but only the top 15 and ties go on,” Jones said. “She did very well.”
Arianne Bascara was the No. 2 bowler for the Scotties, finishing with a 485 series. Lizzy Alexander was third with a 415 series. Diamond Davis, Michelle Haltmier and Erica Pajarillo shared the fourth spot for Bordentown.
The group of bowlers helped continue the domination by the Scotties, who enter the event each year a confident group.
”I have gotten to know some of the other coaches and the recognition is there,” Jones said. “Going into Saturday’s tournament we were probably the fifth seed based on record and pin average. There were teams rated ahead of us, but that’s why you have the tournament.”
The Bordentown and Northern Burlington boys will bowl in the sectional tournament this Saturday at Brunswick Zone in Deptford.
