A new video — featuring a pint-size radio announcer with big league dreams — is being used to promote registration for the 2012 Lambertville-West Amwell Youth Baseball Association.
The video depicts Lambertville resident and youth player, Sam Weber, as John Sterling, the voice of the New York Yankees, calling a game at Ely Field on a cold winter’s day.
Sam can be seen imagining the game from the press box, as the voice of the “bombastic and often times over-the- top Sterling comes pouring out of his mouth,” said a spokesman.
The video was produced by Delaware Valley Video of Lambertville, the company that produced last year’s video for the Vic Walker Memorial Tournament that tapped Phillies announcer Tom McCarthy as the narrator.
The video can be seen on the league’s website. Since it’s been posted, it has “become something of a viral sensation getting hundreds of views,” said the spokesman.
The idea of using Sam Weber as the announcer “is not exactly a stretch as the fifth-grader at Lambertville Public School has been rubbing shoulders and trading jabs with professional play-by-play announcers for years. And while he loves spending time behind the microphone, his true passion is being on the field playing the game,” said the spokesman.
Players who are interested in taking part in this year’s season can register on line at www.sportswarelive.com/lwaybsa or in person Saturdays from noon-4 p.m. at the Union/Fleetwing Firehouse, 230 N. Main St., Lambertville.
Additional information will be sent accordingly, the spokesman said.
