The Hightstown Environmental Commission will be presenting the results of the Hightstown Environmental Resource Inventory (ERI) at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 28, during its regular monthly meeting at the Hightstown First Aid building, 168 Bank St.
The ERI aims to identify Hightstown’s environmental resources, as well as those things that define Hightstown’s cultural heritage and history. Included in the inventory are site maps, the results of geological and natural resource surveys, and a narrative about Hightstown’s history and its cultural role as an agricultural and industrial intersection in the central New Jersey region. The ERI also includes some recommendations for what the Hightstown community can do to become more sustainable.
The public is welcome to attend and comment on the ERI at the upcoming meeting. As feasible, comments will be incorporated into the final document.
”Please join us and become part of an important town defining document,” a HEC press release said.
The completion of this ERI has been critical to Hightstown as the borough moves towards greater sustainability and awareness of its resources.
With financial support and the work of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), the HEC now has a preliminary ERI document to share with the public for community input, a press release said. Without a generous grant from the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) and the support from Borough Council, the ERI could not have been completed.
