To the editor:
It’s the year of the dragon.
On Feb 5, Huaxia Chinese School at Plainsboro (HXPCS) hosted a spectacular Chinese New Year celebration in the auditorium of West Windsor Plainsboro High School North. Hundreds of performers staged marvelous shows in front of 800 local residents. The performers are mostly students and parents of the Chinese school, along with renowned soprano, bass singer, pianist, acrobat artist, Kong Fu master and world champion. The shows included dancing, singing, crosstalk, martial arts, acrobats, and gymnastics. The school’s soccer team performed dragon dance with a giant golden dragon.
Local elected officers attended the event. They are Congressman Rush Holt, state senators Linda Greenstein and Shirley Turner, Assemblyman Daniel Benson, Plainsboro Deputy Mayor Neil Lewis, Councilman Nuran Nabi, and library director Eileen Burnash. Plainsboro Mayor Peter Cantu and township committee sent a proclamation for the school, while West Windsor Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh sent good wishes to the party.
With 19 branches and over 7,000 students in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, Huaxia is the largest Chinese school system in North America. New Jersey is its headquarters and boasts 12 branches. Plainsboro branch is the largest of all and covers the greater Princeton region.
Chinese New Year celebration is a tradition of thousands of years and is meant to preserve Chinese culture. It’s celebrated worldwide and at communities throughout Central Jersey.
We thank all the performers, students, parents, and local officers for supporting our school. We wish everyone good luck and the school all the best in the year of the dragon and many years to come.
