An alert neighbor helped police capture two burglars on Joseph Court Sunday afternoon.
According to police, a resident noticed a male and female standing in front of a home on Joseph Court at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
The resident called police after seeing the male go to the back of the house to be followed minutes later by the female.
Patrolmen George Vit and Michael Leung arrived at the home within minutes and found the rear sliding glass door open, according to police.
While searching the home, the officers saw a 17-year-old male suspect run from the residence.
Police said another officer, Patrolman John Niper, was stationed outside the home and gave chase to the suspect.
According to police, the male ran through several backyards and across Princeton Gate Boulevard onto Toby Drive where Mr. Niper was able to catch up and tackle him.
The two officers searching the home eventually found the female suspect, identified as Breanna Woods, 18, of South Brunswick, and took her into custody.
Ms. Woods was charged with burglary and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. She was released on $1,000 bail, according to police.
The unidentified male suspect was charged with burglary, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and resisting arrest. He was released to a parent, according to police.
Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka praised the resident who called police for foiling the burglary.
"This is yet again a great example of community members getting involved and making a difference," Chief Hayducka said. "The tip the caller gave combined with excellent police work led to the suspects’ capture. The officers and citizen deserve special recognition for their efforts in stopping this crime."
