New Brunswick Jazz Project Presents Vibraphonist Behn Gillece Thursday Feb 16

By Virginia DeBery
On Thursday, February 16, Vibraphonist Behn Gillece will take the stage at the Makeda with a quartet that will reinforce the idea that "Nothing is cooler than jazz!" Behn is an amazingly talented vibes player who played for NBJP last June at The Hyatt. Thursday will be his first performance at Makeda.
Gillece a Philly area native has been playing percussion since he was 14. Says Allaboutjazz.com "…[the] young vibraphonist, mature beyond his years, is a very expressive player and possesses a bright, resonant tone. His four-mallet approach looks like Gary Burton’s and Joe Locke’s, but swings harder and is more bluesy – often leading to the belief that he has listened carefully not only to Milt Jackson and Bobby Hutcherson, but also to the prodigious work of Victor Feldman."
Behn has played with great musicians that include David Hazeltine, Roy Hargrove, Joe Magnarelli, Joel Frahm, Steve Wilson and Paul Bollenback. Venues include the Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Kimmel Center, Smalls Jazz Club, Fat Cat, Chris’ Jazz Cafe, Ortlieb’s Jazz Haus and others. Gillece has also appeared at festivals worldwide— North Sea, Montreux, Nice, Molde, Ghent, Montreal, and Toronto. It will be a special night with swinging music you won’t forget.
