The Daytime FreeB, a free shuttle bus service around the Princetons, is becoming more popular, with increasing ridership.
The mini-bus makes a loop through the borough and township on Mondays, Wednesday and Saturdays and is free to hop on and off.
An average of 30 people use the Daytime FreeB service each day it is run, said Don Mayer Brown, an assistant engineer with Princeton Borough who has been tracking Daytime FreeB ridership .
”Over the last few months it has gotten up to 30 per day,” he said. “We’ve had a high of 46 people and a few other days 40 or 42.”
Saturday is the most popular day for the service, said Mr. Brown.
The service is close to meeting its targeted goals, said Township Mayor Chad Goerner, who has championed the service since its inception.
”With no marketing, I think there is a significant portion of the public that is unaware the service is available.”
Elm Court and Harriet Bryan House have the most people using the service and boarding the bus. Spruce Circle and the Witherspoon neighborhoods also had a fair amount of riders, said Mr. Brown.
The Shopping Center is a big destination.
”It’s due to run out of money in early March,” said Councilwoman Jo Butler at the Borough Council meeting on Jan. 8. “I think they are planning once they get their ducks in a row to come to the governing bodies and ask for additional money to fund the Daytime FreeB through June.”
