CHESTERFIELD: Police seek assilant in bizarre attack

CHESTERFIELD — Police are still searching for the man who assaulted a 40- year-old woman outside of her Wright Drive home on Feb. 1.
Chief of Police Kyle Wilson said the attack took place around 6:30 p.m.
”As the female arrived home she exited the garage to get the mail and she was assaulted,” he said. “She was hospitalized for a few days with a broken jaw.”
Chief Wilson added that the along with the State Police, they were able to work with the victim to come up with a sketch of the suspect.
He is described as a light skinned black male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet, thin build, with curly-ish hair.
At the time of the attack he was wearing a black hoodie with red lettering across the front.
”Nothing was taken from her so we don’t believe this was a robbery, although we don’t know,” he said. “It very well might have been a robbery. We’re only speculating at this point because she’s not missing any items.”
Chief Wilson said the department is following up on all leads.
”Initially looking at it, it seems like it is a complete random act of violence,” he said. “There’s nothing we can pinpoint as to why this occurred, especially to her or this area. Obviously, it’s not something that’s commonplace around here. There’s not rhyme or reason that we can figure out at this point.”
The chief added that the victim wasn’t able to provide police with any information until the day after the incident.
”We’re continuing to do follow-up interviews with her,” Chief Wilson said. “Each time we do we get a little bit more information.”
Chief Wilson said after the attack police canvassed the neighborhood and surrounding areas.
”I thought the area that we covered was the most important,” he said. “We had officers there on the nights following stopping vehicles to see if anything happened.”
Chief Wilson added that he is open to suggestions on how to notify the public.
Township Committeeman Richard LoCascio at the Feb. 8 committee meeting commended the work of the Police Department following the incident.
”Thanks for all of the work you did,” he said. “We’d have to have an officer on every corner in the township to prevent something like this.”
Resident Joe Landee said he thought the information about the attack being on the township website was very helpful.
”The notification as far as I’m concerned, being on the website, was helpful,” he said. “The main thing is to keep a watchful eye out for your neighbors.”
The composite of the suspect is available on the township website at www.chesterfieldtwp.com.
