HILLSBOROUGH: School candidates must file petition by Feb. 27

Now that the school board has decided to go ahead with an April 17 election, people who might want to run for the Board of Education have about 10 days to file their nominating petitions.
The Board of Education decided Monday night against moving the school election to the November general ballot for the next four years.
Candidacy packets for the three vacancies on the township Board of Education are available in the board office in the municipal building on South Branch Road. The deadline to submit the nominating petition is 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, for the election on Tuesday, April 17.
It only takes the signatures of 10 registered voters to qualify. A person must have lived in the township for at least one year. You do not have to have a child in the district to run.
The three-year terms of the board president Steve Paget and vice president Marc Rosenberg expire, as does the term of Dana Boguszewski, who was selected to the fill the vacancy left last May when Barbara Sargent resigned to concentrate on her new job as superintendent of the Readington Township school district.
Candidates file a petition with the school business administrator in order to get their name on the ballot.
A candidate must be able to read and write, have lived in the township or in the sending district of Millstone for at least one year, be registered to vote and be a citizen, have no contract or claim against the board. If elected, a person would have to undergo a criminal history background investigation through the state Department of Education.)
