LAWRENCE: Burglars hit same house twice within one week

Police are looking into a possible link between two attempted burglaries in the same house on Drift Avenue that occurred less than six days apart earlier this month.
The first burglary occurred on Feb. 6 when the homeowner, who was asleep in his bedroom, was awakened by the presence of a man standing in the doorway to the bedroom. He yelled at the man, who fled. Nothing appeared to have been stolen.
The second incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Feb. 12 when burglars forced their way into the house. The homeowner heard a loud noise and went to investigate. He found two men in the house. He told them to leave, and they fled.
Police officers searched the neighborhood on foot and with the department’s K-9 unit, but could not find the would-be burglars. They were described as black youths, about 17 or 18 years old, who were wearing dark clothing.
