MANVILLE: Recreation wrestlers tested in three matches during week

   The Manville Recreation kids wrestled three matches this past week. On Saturday, Feb. 4, Manville wrestled Franklin.
   Nick Lombardino at 53 pounds went into the second period tied at 2-2, but trailed, 4-2, going into the third. After his opponent escaped to make it 5-2 Lombardino got his takedown and put his man to his back for a 6-5 comeback win.
   Ethan Burlew at 57 pounds dominated his match from start to finish and pinned at 2:45 in the third period. Nick Colombaroni at 63 pounds went right to work with a takedown and first-period fall in 0:56.
   At 73 pounds Jack Lombardino, with help from a penalty point, took a 3-2 lead into the second. With a reversal and another takedown Lombardino went into the third up, 7-3, and pinned his opponent with one second remaining on the clock.
   Gavin Potts remained unbeaten at 77 pounds. He took a 2-1 lead into the second, reversed to go ahead 4-2, had another reversal and, after an escape, his second takedown of the match for a final of 8-3.
   In the most exciting match of the day, Alan Rainz at 80 pounds was down by a 10-0 score in the third. Starting on top, Alan turned his man over with a half-Nelson and pinned at the 2:43 mark.
   On Wednesday, Feb. 8, Manville hosted Bound Brook. At 77 pounds . Gavin Potts went into the second period tied at 2-2. reversed his opponent and pinned at 1:50.
   At 100 pounds Dom DeSanto worked through a tough match to pull out a 7-5 victory. With seconds left in the third period, DeSanto stood up and escaped for his win.
   At heavyweight Dylan Whitenight had a quick takedown and pin.
   In some of the other matches Tyler Lozier, Aaron Rizk, Alex Cichon and Martin Mazur all recorded falls — Mazur in the first period.
   Alex Starzinski was able to tough out a 6-5 victory. Tim Whitenight had a 6-1 win and Michael Summers dominated, 7-2.
   Gavin Potts got a second victory, 11-3, and a second pin for his third win of the day. Anthony DeSanto was also able to get a pin. Brian Moyer wrestled tough and had a pin in his match.
   Manville traveled to North Hunterdon on Saturday. Timmy Whitenight posted a 5-1 lead going into the second and 7-3 into the third. Starting from the bottom Tim had a reversal and pinned his man at 2:42 of the 3rd.
   At 77 pounds Gavin Potts continued his unbeaten ways with a 9-2 win. Down, 2-1, going into the second period Potts started on top and turned his opponent for a three-point nearfall. With a 4-2 lead, Potts dominated the third period with an escape, takedown and a two-point nearfall to win, 9-2.
   Dylan Whitenight made quick work of his opponent with a 15-second pin.
   In some of the other matches Chris Petrone had a 7-1 win. Gavin Potts had three victories on the day — two by fall — and remains unbeaten at 77 pounds. Brian Moyer, after being down most of the match, turned his man over to get a pin in the third period.
   Manville will wrestle the last match of the season at home on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. The league tournament is on Sunday, Feb 26.
