SBHS multi-year reunion planned for May
By Jessica Noll, Special Writer
A massive reunion for the 1968-1974 graduates of South Brunswick High School is being planned for May.
1972 graduate Laura Leinwoll-Shapiro is organizing the event.
Ms. Shapiro said she wanted to organize the event as “the reunion of reunions,” combining several classes so classmates could connect with friends of other grades, or team members who played sports together.
Ms. Shapiro said siblings of the graduating class members are also welcome.
The event is scheduled at The Hamilton Manor reception hall in Hamilton Township on Saturday, May 5.
The hall is providing all of the catering, beginning with hors d’oeuvres and then opening a buffet with a selection of food for all types of diet including vegetarian and special diets, Ms. Shapiro said.
A cash bar will be available and there will be a disc jockey playing music from the era. Guests can choose to sit at open tables or walk around the room with their food.
A Facebook page for the event, with more than 300 members, is called “South Brunswick Multi Class ‘68-74 Reunion May 5th 2012” and already has photographs and posts provided by the event’s organizers as well as those planning to attend.
Ms. Shapiro said she got the idea after attending a couple of sit-down dinner class reunions during the past.
She said she wants this event to get people talking and re-acquainting with one another and to be able to move around the hall and interact with as many people as they might like to, rather than having to sit at one table for the evening.
Alumni Joe Lojko (class of ‘72) is collecting photographs and creating an audio visual program to play during the evening, and Ken MacDougall (class of ‘72) is updating the list of attendees on the event’s Facebook page.
Ms. Shapiro said the event has no theme or dress code and the idea is for everyone to come as they are.
There will also be message board out on a table where people can write about those who have passed away since graduation and the more recent reunions.
Ms. Shapiro said her senior year biology teacher Mr. Biemuller would be attending, and participants will be traveling to the event from as close as down the road in South Brunswick to as far away as Milan, Italy for the event.
Shapiro said the quote from the ancient roman statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero, “memory is the treasury and guardian of all things,” is the main theme for the evening.
Tickets for the evening cost $55 per person and can be purchased from Laura directly online through PayPal or by mailing a check to: Laura Shapiro, 610 West 42nd St Apt 58A New York, NY 10036.
