JAMESBURG The Jamesburg Volunteer Fire Company once again has managed to keep its budget the same, and no one is challenging the two incumbent candidates for commissioner.
The total budget is $446,001 with $393,944 to be raised by taxation. The tax rate is 16.6 cents per $100 of assessed value, the same as last year.
An owner of a residential property assessed at the average of $124,190 would pay about $206 in taxes for fire coverage if the budget is passed tomorrow. The tax rate for Jamesburg’s fire district has remained between 16 and 17 cents per $100 of assessed value for the past four years.
The two uncontested commissioners up for re-election are Nancy Linke and Brian Wright.
Ms. Linke. 48, has lived in Jamesburg since 1974. She is married with five children and one grandchild, all of whom live in Jamesburg.
She has been commissioner with the district for 10 years and clerk for six years.
”I enjoy it, and I’m learning a lot,” she said. “My father has been a firefighter for 34 years. It’s just something I enjoy doing. We care so much for the townspeople that we don’t raise the budget. We do that by trying to save money as much as we can. One way we do that is by using paper ballots, no election machines.”
Mr. Wright could not be reached before press time.
Jamesburg Fire District is serviced by 40 volunteers and is 112 years old.
