JW Wrestlers Bring Home 4 Medals from County Tournament Team Co-Captain James Verbeyst led the way, placing 1st.

The JW Wrestling Team finished off their season in a day of triumph at the Mercer County Wrestling Tournament, with a first place medal won by James Verbeyst. Max Gensib, David Hurlin and Charles Griebell took home 2nd and 3rd place medals.
Varsity and Junior Varsity middle school wrestling teams in the area participated in the Mercer County Wrestling tournament on Sunday, February 12. The tournament was held at Robbinsville High School.
John Witherspoon Middle School wrestling participants were: Mitchell Mullen(7th grade), Matthew Hawes (7th grade), James Verbeyst (7th grade), David Hurlin (6th grade), Max Gensib (6th grade) and Charles Griebell (6th grade).
James Verbeyst was the Varsity champion in his weight class of 85 pounds, winning with two pins and a decision. Max Gensib placed 2nd in his Varsity weight class. For Junior Varsity, David Hurlin and Charles Griebell won 2nd and 3rd place respectively, for their individual weight class.
Also members of JW’s wrestling team are Alex Freda(8th grade), James Nehlig (7th grade), and Matt and Will Herwig (8th grade). This season, the team was coached by John Asmuth, with Dan Rodriguez and Ken Verbeyst assisting.
