SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION DATES

League of Women Voters
With over half of the property taxes in Hopewell Valley dedicated to funding public schools, voters have a special interest in school elections, where they elect members of the school board and vote on the annual school budget.
Since Hopewell Valley Regional School District has voted to retain the traditional April election date, following are key deadlines, provided by the Hopewell Valley League of Women Voters:
    — Feb. 27 (4 p.m.) — Nomination petition filing deadline for school board seats. Petitions are available from Board Secretary Robert Colavita, 425 S. Main St., Pennington.
Three seats on the nine-member regional board are up for election this year. Two Hopewell Township seats, currently held by Lisa Wolff and Leigh Ann Peterson, will be on the ballot. Pennington’s single seat, held by Daniel J. O’Connor, is up for a vote. All three seats are full three-year terms. Hopewell Borough is not involved in this year’s election.
   — March 27 — Voter registration and change of voting address deadline. Forms are available at local libraries, municipal buildings, and online at www.njelections.org.
   — April 10 — Deadline to apply for Mail-in Ballot by mail.
   — April 16 — Deadline (until 3 p.m.) that a voter may apply in-person to the county clerk for a Mail-in Ballot. The clerk cannot accept faxed or e-mailed copies of the application, except for military or overseas voters. An original signature is required.
   — April 17 — School board election.
